Abstract

This web annex to the WHO consolidated guidance on tuberculosis data generation and use provides standardized templates and formulae for the reporting of aggregated tuberculosis (TB) surveillance data and the calculation of core indicators. The document is intended to support consistent recording, reporting and analysis of TB data within paper-based and digital surveillance systems. It presents annual and quarterly reporting templates covering TB case notifications, bacteriological confirmation, HIV status, drug resistance, treatment enrolment and treatment outcomes, as well as indicators related to tuberculosis preventive treatment and contact investigation.

The annex also details methods for calculating aggregate totals and indicators, including explicit formulae and definitions for surveillance variables and reporting categories. Guidance is provided on the use of standardized classifications for pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB, rifampicin-resistant and multidrug-resistant TB, HIV-associated TB, and treatment outcomes. Additional elements recommended for case-based digital surveillance systems are described to strengthen monitoring, data quality and comparability across settings. The document aims to facilitate accurate, harmonized and evidence-based TB surveillance and programme monitoring in line with WHO standards and reporting requirements.
