Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis: annual meeting report, Geneva, Switzerland, 10-11 June 2025
World Health Organization
Abstract
Sustained global efforts to end tuberculosis (TB) face significant challenges related to financing constraints, evolving epidemiological patterns and the need for renewed strategic direction beyond existing targets. This report presents the outcomes of the 25th annual meeting of the World Health Organization’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis (STAG-TB), an expert advisory body that provides independent scientific, strategic and technical guidance to the Director-General of WHO on TB prevention and care.
The document summarizes discussions on accelerating progress towards the End TB Strategy targets, addressing the impact of funding disruptions on TB services, and sustaining WHO’s leadership role in a changing global health landscape. It examines regional and country-level challenges, the role of partnerships and civil society engagement, and priorities for maintaining momentum under constrained resources. The report also outlines considerations for the development of a post-2030 global TB strategy, including a proposed roadmap and emphasis on innovation, people-centred care and multisectoral collaboration. Recommendations were formulated through structured sessions, expert commentaries and plenary review, and address strategic priorities, country support, financing and accountability mechanisms. Intended for policy-makers, programme managers and global health partners, it informs coordinated action to strengthen the global TB response and guide future strategic planning.
