World Health Organization
Abstract
This report summarizes the proceedings, discussions and recommendations of the 24th annual meeting of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis (STAG-TB), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17 to 19 June 2024. Convened by WHO’s Global Tuberculosis Programme, the meeting reviewed progress towards implementation of the End TB Strategy and commitments adopted at the 2023 United Nations High-level Meeting on tuberculosis. The report presents updates on the global TB response and examines strategic priorities including integration of TB services within primary health care, integrated approaches to lung health, the relationship between tuberculosis and climate change, development of pragmatic and adaptive TB clinical trial platforms, methods for estimating TB incidence and mortality, and criteria for TB elimination and validation processes.
The publication documents the technical discussions and recommendations developed by STAG-TB members to guide WHO’s policy and programmatic work. Emphasis is placed on strengthening people-centred and multisectoral approaches, advancing research and innovation, improving health system resilience, addressing social and environmental determinants of TB, and enhancing evidence generation and monitoring methods to support progress towards global TB targets and universal health coverage.
