AI-Assisted Strategies for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections

Stuti Ghosh, Sudipto Saha

Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious threat to global public health. The multidrug and extensively drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and drug-resistant ESKAPE are important health-associated infections. In this chapter, applications of artificial intelligence (AI) on several fronts to tackle AMR are discussed, including AI-assisted diagnosis of clinical isolates of antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB) from whole genome sequencing (WGS) and metagenome sequence data, AMR surveillance, drug repurposing, and development of potent antimicrobial peptides (AMPs).
