Abstract
Zolpidem, a member of the imidazopyridine group, differs from benzodiazepines due to its selective affinity for the alpha subunit of GABA receptors, which is why it has been widely adopted for the treatment of sleep disorders since its introduction in the 1990s.Despite its effectiveness, the growing body of evidence regarding its side effects has spurred a debate about its clinical safety. This article comprehensively reviews case studies and patient reports, gathering data from international research that documents neuropsychiatric adversities, among other negative effects, associated with the indiscriminate use of Zolpidem. This analysis aimed to further our understanding of the risks involved in the use of this medication, emphasizing the need for caution and rigorous monitoring in its therapeutic use.
