Catalyzing solutions for equitable global access and sustainable financing for novel tuberculosis vaccines for adults and adolescents

World Health Organization

Abstract

Persistent inequities in access to effective tuberculosis (TB) prevention tools, combined with constrained and uncertain financing environments, continue to hinder progress towards ending the global TB epidemic. This report presents a forward-looking technical analysis developed under the World Health Organization’s TB Vaccine Accelerator Council to inform strategies for equitable access to and sustainable financing of novel TB vaccines for adolescents and adults.

The document examines the evolving TB vaccine ecosystem through an integrated assessment of country readiness, demand and supply projections, product development pathways and the global financing landscape. Drawing on country and stakeholder consultations, scenario modelling and market analyses, it identifies critical uncertainties and bottlenecks affecting early introduction, including demand fragmentation, manufacturing capacity constraints, regulatory dependencies and financing gaps over the 2030–2040 period. The report further outlines a set of coordinated solutions and mechanisms to address these challenges, supported by a roadmap and call to action that define roles for governments, partners, industry and financing institutions. Intended for policy-makers, global health partners and manufacturers, it supports aligned decision-making and early planning to accelerate timely, equitable and sustainable access to new TB vaccines.
