Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a preventable and curable disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tuberculosis).In 2022, TB was the second leading cause of death worldwide due to a single infectious agent, after COVID-19.Brazil is among the 30 countries with the highest TB burden. The Bacillus Calmette-Gurin (BCG) vaccine is the only licensed vaccine for TB.While it provides protection against severe childhood TB, its effectiveness in preventing adult pulmonary TB is limited, underscoring the need for a more effective vaccine. Objectives: This study aims to explore the challenges in developing new TB vaccines.
