Abstract
Tuberculosis is one of the leading cause of mortality in India as well as worldwide. The causative organism is Mycobacterium tuberculosis which is a global concern due to drug resistance. Recently there is an increase of 20% drug resistance strain of tuberculosis and some are resistant to more than one drug called multi – drug resistance tuberculosis (MDR – TB). To overcome this problem there is a need to early diagnosis of disease and proper treatment. This review discusses about diagnostic tools of tuberculosis and MDR – TB as well as treatment regime. The use of molecular techniques are helpful for early diagnosis and detection of mutations and drug resistance which provide guidance of treatment decisions.
