Abstract

Abstract. Despite all the achievements of science and practice, pulmonary tuberculosis continues its dark work in Ukraine and on all continents. Antibacterial therapy is often delayed and, in other cases, does not keep up with the programmed treatment algorithm. Relevance of the problem lies in the fact that antibacterial therapy is increasingly proving to be ineffective due to the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis and the resistance of tuberculosis mycobacteria to existing antibacterial chemotherapeutic agents. Tuberculosis surgery remains effective, relying on resection methods. However, the latter may not always be possible and often complicate matters. In both cases, an alternative may be collapse surgery. Materials and Methods. The proposals of Kharkiv tuberculosis surgeons over the past 100–120 years, who developed and improved an alternative to resection surgery – extrapleural thoracoplasty operation, were briefly considered. Conclusion. The tuberculosis surgical interventions proposed by M. Subbotin, F. Rose, A. Kiselov, A. Florikyan were at the level of world science and deserve the attention of compatriots. They should find successors in practical application and in subsequent scientific and theoretical developments. Healthcare organizers in Kharkiv region and Ukraine should contribute to this.
