Abstract

Background: Lower lung eld tuberculosis is dened as tuberculosis with involvement of lower lung elds without simultaneous involvement of upper lobe. Lower lung eld tuberculosis when encountered for the rst time often suggest a diagnosis other than tuberculosis such as pneumonia, bronchogenic carcinoma, bronchiectasis or lung abscess. Hence this study was designed to nd out the clinico-radiological prole of lower lung eld tuberculosis cases. Methods: This study was conducted from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 at Institute of Respiratory Diseases, Sawai Man Singh Medical college, Jaipur. Results: Mean age of patients was 51.7+-15.1, it was more common in age group of >60 years. Males (69.3%) were more commonly affected. Chest radiograph showed predominance of right side (82.0%). The relative risk of having the lower lung eld tuberculosis in diabetes patients, HIV, renal disease patients was high. Conclusion: Lower lung eld tuberculosis is not an uncommon entity. It is more common in right side on chest x-ray. Clinico-radiological features are different from upper lobe tuberculosis.
