Abstract

The article describes a clinical observation of timely detected and treated female genital tuberculosis (FGTB) in an immunocompetent woman with tubal-peritoneal infertility before enrollment in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) programme. We have outlined diagnostic features of the disease, its association with the history of pulmonary TB, primary methods of examination, and treatment principles in FGTB. The examination included controlled simulation of ovulation, sonography, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, pathomorphological studies, X-ray and computed tomography of the chest, endometrial biopsy. We also performed Ziehl–Neelsen microscopy of sputum, endometrium; luminescent microscopy; inoculation of endometrium, menstrual blood, and sputum onto solid and liquid nutrient media. We described successful pregnancy after IVF in a patient with tubal-peritoneal infertility due to FGTB after TB treatment. We concluded how important was to consider TB as a possible cause of bilateral fallopian tube blockage. Success and safety of IVF was preconditioned by timely detection and treatment of TB in the fallopian tubes, the endometrium, and the abdomen, as well as thorough monitoring of the reproductive organs.
