Abstract

Tuberculosis is a disease that continues to occur in the country in relation to poverty and \novercrowding; for the diagnosis of multidrug resistance, microbiology is a fundamental pillar. \nThe objective of the study was to describe the microbiology of patients diagnosed with drugresistant tuberculosis, treated at the Pablo Arturo Suárez General Provincial Hospital, between \n2013 and 2016. It was a descriptive study of prevalence. Sixty medical records were reviewed \nwith available results of smear microscopies, Genexpert and pre and post treatment cultures. \nStatistical analysis was performed in SPSS V23 and Excel Microsoft office 8. Of the confirmed \ncases were: 32 men (53.33%) and 28 women (46.67%). In relation to the antecedents, 20% were \nnew cases, 31.67% relapsed, 80% treatment failure, 21.67% abandoned and 10% lost to followup recovered. In microbiology, 77% of smear microscopies were positive, 100% of Genexpert \nand positive cultures, prior to the start of treatment. Rifampicin resistance predominated \n(93.33%). It was concluded that Genexpert and cultures are useful for the diagnosis of DR-TB, \nwith a superior sensitivity to smear microscopy
