Abstract
Various quinazolinone derivatives were prepared with the help of 2-Amino-3, 4, 5-trimethoxy benzoic acid and vilsmeir reagent. The structural features of synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR and mass spectroscopy. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in-vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities against gram (+) bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus), gram (−) bacteria (E.coli and Serratia marcesens), fungi (Aspergillus niger and Alternaria alternate) by disc diffusion method. MIC values reveals that most of the synthesized compounds possessed good antimicrobial activity but some of them showed a most potent anti-microbial activity like 4e, 4m, 4n, and 4o.Then, further these potent compounds were subjected to anti-tuberculosis activity against bacteria mycobacterium H37 Rv. Results indicated that these synthesized quinazolinone analogues may be helpful in the discovery of new antimicrobial agents. This is also need of the hour to resolve the problem of drug resistance and infections.
