Ileocaecal Tuberculosis in A Nigerian Child: A Case Report

Abstract

Childhood Tuberculosis is a public health emergency in Nigeria. Abdominal tuberculosis (TB) is one of the commonest forms of extrapulmonary TB with nonspecific and protean clinical manifestations. We present a 5 year old girl with fever of two weeks, abdominal pain and swelling of three days duration and vomiting of two days duration. Other symptoms were anorexia, generalised body weakness and weight loss. Her significant physical findings were, moderate pallor, underweight, submandibular lymphadenopathy, abdominal distension, doughy abdomen and a tender tubular mass extending from the right lumbar to right iliac region.
